Have a Nice Life – Deathconsciousness

with one comment

So far, I think, Deathconsciousness is my favorite album of 2008. It’s a creative masterpiece. It combines new wave, shoegaze, post-punk, and post-rock in a really unique way.

I ordered the CD awhile back (I think they have stopped selling hard copies of the CD directly, but you can get digital copies from their site) and it came with this 75 page pamphlet which had some really awesome art. The band itself is comprised of two guys from Connecticut, and the CD is a complete home recording.

On their about page, I think they describe their recording process best when they say:

Each individual artist is now capable of producing whatever they want, without the need to conform to anyone else’s expectations. Unique visions can now be communicated directly to the people that enjoy them, without the need for expensive advertising or the costs of massive pre-production; if an audience exists, anywhere, it can be found and connected with.

Finally, when I went to order the CD, I ended up having to email one of the guys in the band so that I could get their paypal information. He was an incredibly nice guy.

So if you want indie cred, go out and buy their debut Deathconsciousness. You’ll be supporting a great band and a great cause — truly independent production.

The whole CD is streaming free here on

Oh, I almost forgot:

The band instructs you to listen to the CD start to finish with headphones on in the dark. I did this. It is definitely the way to fly.
