That’s right: when good emos die, they go to The Black Parade. Or so said the UK’s Daily Mail several days back. The article itself, filled with hysterical gems galore (obviously the girl’s suicide is no laughing matter), has apparently caused some consternation among our friends who like “guitar-based rock with emotional lyrics.” Indeed, on the 31st those who intend to one day join The Black Parade gathered in England outside The Daily Mail’s offices to sing god awful songs and try to perform some damage control (for those who wonder what damage control looks like, I direct you to this YouTube video — courtesy Idolator).

According to NME, our wayward youth held up signs like, “We’re Not A Cult, We’re An Army – The MCRMY”! Indeed, if there’s one thing comparison you should avoid when you’re trying to explain to the world you’re not a cult, it’s the comparison that you’re actually an army. Or a religion. It’s also best not to have you and a bunch of your friends dress up in masks out of V for Vendetta (as apparently took place in the video linked to above).

A commenter on the NME piece sums it up best, I think, when he says:

This whole thing seems pretty pointless to me, what are the fans going to achieve? At the end of the day the people at the Daily Mail still get paid and MCR are still a load of ole’ goats balls. Why can’t they show some respect and let the little girls family grieve in peace without having all this extra stress over, as i’ve said what this will achieve already – NOTHING!

Wise words, wise words.

  1. Shit like this, the Daily Mail thing, that tries to over-analyze emo as some plague really doesn’t help the image/cause/ideals/whatev. of places like fourfa, and Music Zen, (hey, I know that place!).

    Plus: “emo” kids are stupid.

Double Plus: That girl’s death sucks. Suicide is something very sad, but I don’t think it can be explained by the fact that she wanted to “join the Black Parade.”

Triple Plus: What that article told me was that The Black Parade is going to be remembered as a quintessential emo album. Sad day.

  2. If it wasn’t for the “emo” trend, I would have killed myself a long time ago. God, this world just keeps getting better and better with trends that keeps getting ridiculous.

I just sit back and watch.

  3. Quad. Plus: Clearly, none of them are true MCR fans. If they were, they’d be singing songs off of the first two albums, not the Black Parade.

Quint. Plus: Because they’re British, it sounds like they’re chanting “M C AH”

Sex. Plus: I bet they like the Sex Pistols too.
